Which Assassin's Creed game was the first to use the RPG-style dialogue-choice system?
Answer
Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Answer
Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Assassin's Creed Odyssey was the first Assassin's Creed game to use the series' RPG-style dialogue-choice system.
Released in 2018, Odyssey lets players select dialogue responses during conversations. Some choices affect quests, relationships, and story outcomes, giving the game a more openly branching structure than earlier mainline entries. Players choose to play as either Kassandra or Alexios, descendants of the Spartan king Leonidas I.
The game is set in Ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War, with a story beginning in 431 BCE. It expands on the role-playing systems introduced in Assassin's Creed Origins, including levels, equipment rarity, abilities, and a large open world. Origins, released in 2017, established the modern RPG direction but did not use Odyssey's dialogue-choice format in the same way.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla continued and expanded dialogue choices in 2020. Because Origins introduced the RPG framework, it is sometimes incorrectly identified as the first game with the dialogue-choice system.
