Which Assassin's Creed game was the first to feature a fully explorable open-world Paris?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Unity was the first Assassin's Creed game to feature a fully explorable open-world Paris.

Released in 2014, Unity follows Arno Dorian during the French Revolution. Its recreation of Paris includes districts, landmarks, interiors, crowds, underground passages, and missions spread across a large continuous urban environment.

The game is set mainly from 1789 onward, covering events such as the storming of the Bastille and the changing political order. Notre-Dame de Paris, the Louvre, and other recognizable locations are integrated into the city map.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate later used a comparable approach for Victorian London, but it did not come first. Assassin's Creed III portrayed colonial cities and wilderness, while Rogue focused on the North Atlantic and parts of North America.
