Which Assassin's Creed game stars Edward Kenway as its pirate protagonist?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag stars Edward Kenway as its pirate protagonist.

Released in 2013, Black Flag follows Edward Kenway, a Welsh privateer who becomes involved with both the Assassins and the Templars during the Golden Age of Piracy. The story is set mainly in the Caribbean in the early eighteenth century.

Edward commands the ship Jackdaw, and naval exploration is a major part of the game. Players can sail between islands, attack rival vessels, hunt animals, explore settlements, and search for treasure while the wider Assassin-Templar conflict develops.

Edward is the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton, also known as Connor, the protagonist of Assassin's Creed III. This family connection is why Black Flag is linked narratively to that earlier game, although its pirate setting and naval focus give it a distinctive identity.
