Which Assassin's Creed game is the first to feature playable twins as its main protagonists?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is the first Assassin's Creed game to feature playable twins as its main protagonists.

Released in 2015, Syndicate centers on Jacob and Evie Frye, twin Assassins who operate in London in 1868. Both characters are playable, and each has a distinct skill emphasis: Jacob is associated with direct combat and gang leadership, while Evie is more strongly oriented toward stealth and investigation.

Earlier games offered multiple playable characters or alternating perspectives, but they did not use a brother-and-sister twin pair as the central playable leads in this way. The Frye siblings' relationship is therefore a defining structural feature of Syndicate.

The game also introduced a large open-world version of Victorian London, horse-drawn carriages and the Rooks gang. These features are separate from the twin-protagonist distinction, which specifically refers to Jacob and Evie sharing the lead role.
