Which Assassin’s Creed game is set primarily in Viking-era England?

The story behind the answer

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is set primarily in Viking-era England.

Released in 2020, Valhalla follows Eivor, a Viking from Norway who leads a settlement in England during the ninth century. The story explores conflicts among Saxon kingdoms, Viking settlers, and the Hidden Ones’ struggle against the Order of the Ancients. Norway also appears, but England is the game’s largest and central historical environment.

Players travel between regions, establish and expand a settlement, form alliances, raid locations, and pursue story arcs involving rulers such as Alfred of Wessex. The game uses a fictional protagonist within a setting populated by real historical figures and political forces.

Valhalla is distinct from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which focuses on ancient Greece, and Assassin’s Creed Origins, which focuses on ancient Egypt. Its Viking setting places it much later in the franchise’s historical chronology.
