Which Assassin's Creed game is set mainly in Renaissance Florence and Venice?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed II is the Assassin's Creed game set mainly in Renaissance Florence and Venice.

Released in 2009, the game follows Ezio Auditore da Firenze as he becomes an Assassin after his family is caught in a political conspiracy. His journey takes him through several Italian locations, including Florence, Monteriggioni, Venice, and the Vatican City.

The setting covers the late fifteenth century, a period associated with major artistic, political, and commercial developments in Italy. Historical figures such as Leonardo da Vinci, Lorenzo de' Medici, and Niccolò Machiavelli appear in the narrative, although the central conspiracy is fictionalized.

Assassin's Creed II is the first main game to feature Ezio and begins the Ezio trilogy. Brotherhood continues Ezio's story primarily in Rome, while Revelations takes him to Constantinople. These neighboring games are therefore easy to mix up with the Florence-and-Venice setting of Assassin's Creed II.
