Which Assassin’s Creed game is set during the Peloponnesian War in ancient Greece?

The story behind the answer

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is set during the Peloponnesian War in ancient Greece.

Released in 2018, Odyssey takes place in the fifth century BCE, during the conflict between Athens and Sparta. Its large Greek world includes locations such as Athens, Sparta, Kephallonia, Delphi, and many Aegean islands. Historical figures including Pericles, Socrates, and Alcibiades appear in the story.

The player controls Alexios or Kassandra, descendants of Leonidas I. Kassandra is the canon protagonist in the game’s official novelization, but the game allows players to choose either sibling. That choice is why questions asking for one universal playable character can be ambiguous.

Odyssey is earlier than Origins, which is set in Ptolemaic Egypt. It also expands role-playing systems with dialogue choices, branching quests, naval travel, and multiple endings.
