Which Assassin’s Creed game introduced the city of Paris as its main setting?

The story behind the answer

Assassin’s Creed Unity introduced Paris as its main setting.

Released in 2014, Unity follows Arno Dorian, who becomes involved with the Assassin Brotherhood during the French Revolution. Paris is represented as a large, detailed city filled with landmarks, crowded streets, political unrest, and missions connected to the revolution’s changing phases.

The story begins in the years before the revolution and continues through major events of the late eighteenth century. Players visit locations inspired by the Palace of Versailles, Notre-Dame, the Tuileries, and other Parisian sites. Unity also introduced cooperative missions designed for multiple players.

Paris should not be confused with the Italian cities of Assassin’s Creed II, the colonial North American settings of Assassin’s Creed III, or the London setting of Syndicate. Arno is the game’s principal historical protagonist, while Elise de la Serre is a major Templar character whose relationship with him shapes the plot.
