Which Assassin's Creed game introduced Shay Patrick Cormac as its playable protagonist?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Rogue introduced Shay Patrick Cormac as its playable protagonist.

Released in 2014, Rogue follows Shay, an Irish-American sailor who begins as a member of the Assassin Brotherhood. After becoming disillusioned with the Brotherhood's methods, he defects and joins the Templar Order.

The game's central perspective is unusual for the series because the player controls a former Assassin working against his previous allies. Its story takes place during the Seven Years' War and connects directly with characters and events from Assassin's Creed III and Black Flag.

Rogue is set across the North Atlantic, the River Valley, and New York. It is often paired historically with Unity because both were released in 2014, but Rogue's narrative leads into Unity's opening events rather than taking place mainly in Paris.
