Which artist won Eurovision 1991 for Sweden with “Fångad av en stormvind”?

The story behind the answer

Carola won Eurovision 1991 for Sweden with “Fångad av en stormvind.”

The 1991 contest was held in Rome, Italy, on 4 May. Sweden’s Carola Häggkvist performed the Swedish-language song “Fångad av en stormvind,” which translates approximately as “Captured by a Love Storm.” She tied with France at the top of the scoreboard with 146 points.

Because both countries finished on the same total, Eurovision’s tie-break rules were used. Sweden prevailed because it had received more top scores, including more 10-point awards. The result is therefore officially recorded as a Swedish victory rather than a shared win.

Carola had already represented Sweden in 1983 and later returned in 2006. Her 1991 win is sometimes confused with Sweden’s 1999 victory by Charlotte Nilsson, another Swedish female solo performer.
