Which arena is home to the New York Rangers?

The story behind the answer

Which arena is home to the New York Rangers? Madison Square Garden is home to the New York Rangers.

The Rangers play their home games at the current Madison Square Garden in Midtown Manhattan, located above Pennsylvania Station between Seventh and Eighth avenues. The arena is commonly shortened to MSG or called “the Garden,” and it is one of New York City’s best-known sports and entertainment venues.

The Rangers share the building with the NBA’s New York Knicks. That dual use makes Madison Square Garden unusual among major arenas: its ice surface is converted for basketball, concerts and other events, while the Rangers maintain the venue’s long-standing hockey identity.

The franchise was founded in 1926 and is one of the NHL’s Original Six teams. The team won its first Stanley Cup in only its second season, 1927–28, and later captured championships in 1933, 1940 and 1994. A common mix-up is confusing MSG with the New Jersey Devils’ Prudential Center or the New York Islanders’ UBS Arena; those are different metropolitan-area venues.
