Apple unveiled the first iPhone on January 9, 2007, at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco.
Steve Jobs presented it as three products in one: a widescreen iPod, a mobile phone, and an internet communicator. The device combined those functions through a touchscreen interface rather than a physical keyboard.
Apple released the iPhone in the United States on June 29, 2007. It initially used AT&T as its exclusive carrier and introduced visual voicemail, a mobile Safari browser, and a full-screen multitouch interface.
The iPhone is sometimes confused with the iPod touch, which Apple introduced later in 2007 without cellular calling. The iPhone became the foundation of Apple’s services and mobile-device business.
