Which annual men's major golf tournament is played at Augusta National Golf Club?

The story behind the answer

The annual men's major golf tournament played at Augusta National Golf Club is the Masters Tournament.

The Masters is one of golf's four men's major championships and is traditionally the first major of the calendar year. Unlike the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, and Open Championship, it is always held at the same course: Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia.

Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts founded the event after Jones helped establish Augusta National on the site of a former plant nursery. The first tournament was played in 1934 as the Augusta National Invitation Tournament; it officially became the Masters Tournament in 1939.

A common mix-up is calling Augusta National itself “the Masters.” Augusta National is the private golf club and course; the Masters is the tournament played there. The event is also famous for its green jacket, awarded to champions since 1949, and for its Champions Dinner.
