Raymond was the first Animal Crossing villager to have heterochromia.
Heterochromia means that a person or animal has differently colored irises. Raymond, a smug gray cat, has one blue eye and one yellow-green eye, making the trait a distinctive part of his design. He first appeared in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, released for Nintendo Switch in 2020.
Raymond’s mismatched eyes were unusual among the series’ earlier villager designs, which is why character references identify him as the first Animal Crossing villager with heterochromia. His appearance also includes black glasses, a shirt-and-waistcoat outfit, and a tuft of blond hair.
His design and smug personality helped make him one of New Horizons’ most sought-after villagers, especially because he was new and initially had no amiibo card. That scarcity contributed to player-to-player trading markets and inflated in-game asking prices. The other options are established villagers, but they do not hold this specific distinction: Apollo is an eagle, Rosie is a cat, and Audie is a wolf.
