Which ancient city is the setting of Assassin's Creed Revelations?

The story behind the answer

Constantinople is the principal setting of Assassin's Creed Revelations. Ezio Auditore travels there in 1511 to locate Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's five Masyaf keys and uncover the secrets of an ancient library.

The city, the capital of the Byzantine Empire, is shown during the final years before the Ottoman conquest. The game includes districts on both sides of the Golden Horn and features locations such as Galata, the Imperial district, and the waterfront. Ezio works with the local Assassin Guild while confronting Byzantine Templars.

Constantinople is the historical name used for the city in the game. It was officially renamed Istanbul in the twentieth century, although “Istanbul” was already used in various contexts before the modern official change. Using the historical name matches the game's 1511 setting.

Revelations was released in 2011 and concludes Ezio's main trilogy. It also returns to Altaïr's story through playable memory sequences, linking the two protagonists. The game introduced the hookblade and expanded the earlier city-traversal mechanics.
