Shark Tank is the United States adaptation of the format behind Britain's Dragon's Den.
The American series premiered on ABC in 2009 and features entrepreneurs presenting businesses to a panel of investors. Those investors are called Sharks, whereas the British programme uses Dragons as its central branding.
Both programmes descend from the Japanese format Money Tigers. The shared structure includes a business pitch, questions about sales and valuation, offers of investment and negotiations over equity. However, the panel members, broadcasters and featured businesses differ by country.
Shark Tank is therefore not a renamed British series. It is a separate American production using the same international format family. The programmes also have different presenters and investor line-ups.
