Which airline operated the first commercial Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight?

The story behind the answer

All Nippon Airways operated the first commercial Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight.

The Japanese airline, commonly known as ANA, received the first 787 and used it for the aircraft’s inaugural passenger service on October 26, 2011. The first route connected Tokyo’s Haneda Airport with Hong Kong. Boeing had originally planned an earlier introduction, but the 787 program experienced substantial delays before entering airline service.

The Dreamliner was designed as a long-range, twin-engine wide-body aircraft with extensive use of composite materials. Its passenger features included larger windows, higher cabin humidity than many earlier jets, and systems intended to improve cabin comfort. Japan Airlines also became an early 787 operator, but it did not conduct the first commercial 787 flight. The aircraft’s launch customer is therefore ANA, while the first delivery and later route expansions are separate milestones.
