Paige O'Hara provided Belle's singing and speaking voice in Disney's 1991 animated Beauty and the Beast.
O'Hara was cast as Belle after auditioning for the role and became closely associated with the character. Her performance includes Belle's dialogue as well as the songs that define the film, including “Belle” and “Something There.”
Belle's speaking and singing performances were not split between two different lead actresses, unlike some animated productions that use separate performers. O'Hara therefore supplied both major vocal aspects of the character in the original English version.
The voice cast also included Robby Benson as the Beast, Richard White as Gaston, and Jerry Orbach as Lumière. Susan Egan later played Belle in the original Broadway production, which is a frequent source of confusion.
