Which actress played Saavik in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan?

Kirstie Alley played Lieutenant Saavik in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Saavik is a young Vulcan-Romulan Starfleet officer who serves aboard the USS Enterprise during the mission involving Khan and the Genesis Device.

The role was Alley’s film debut. Her portrayal presents Saavik as highly disciplined but still learning how to balance Vulcan logic with human emotion. She trains under Captain Spock and becomes involved in the rescue of the research crew aboard the USS Reliant. Saavik’s emotional reaction to Spock’s death is an important moment in the film.

Robin Curtis replaced Alley as Saavik in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Because both actresses played the same character in consecutive films, cast lists are sometimes confused. Alley later became widely known for her television work, especially the sitcom Cheers.
