Linda Hamilton played Catherine in the 1987 television series Beauty and the Beast.

The CBS series reimagined the fairy tale as a romantic fantasy drama set largely in contemporary New York City. Catherine Chandler is a successful attorney who is attacked and left for dead in the pilot. Vincent, a lion-faced man living in an underground community, rescues and nurses her back to health. Their relationship becomes the emotional center of the series.

Ron Perlman played Vincent, and the contrast between Hamilton's modern professional character and Perlman's mythic underground hero gave the show a distinctive tone. The series premiered in September 1987 and ran for three seasons, although Hamilton left during the third season.

This series is separate from Disney's animated film, which arrived in 1991, and from the 2012 television series of the same name. Hamilton is also widely known for playing Sarah Connor in The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
