Which actress played Belle in the 2014 French film Beauty and the Beast?
Answer
Léa Seydoux
Léa Seydoux played Belle in the 2014 French film Beauty and the Beast.
Seydoux stars as Belle opposite Vincent Cassel's Beast in Christophe Gans's French-language fantasy film. This version presents Belle as the daughter of a merchant and places the romance within a visually elaborate world shaped by French fairy-tale tradition.
The film is not the same production as Jean Cocteau's 1946 classic or Disney's 2017 adaptation. It uses its own screenplay, designs, mythology, and cast, although all three films draw on the same broad Beauty and the Beast story.
Seydoux is known for a wide range of French and international films, including Blue Is the Warmest Colour, Spectre, and No Time to Die. Her casting is sometimes confused with Emma Watson's, who played Belle in Disney's later English-language live-action adaptation.
