Christoph Waltz won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained.
Waltz played Dr. King Schultz, a German bounty hunter who frees Django and trains him to locate the men who enslaved Django’s wife, Broomhilda. Schultz’s partnership with Django drives much of the film’s first half.
The Oscar was Waltz’s second Best Supporting Actor win for a Tarantino film. He had previously won for playing Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, making him one of the rare actors to win the category twice for roles created by the same director.
Django Unchained also won Tarantino the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Jamie Foxx played Django, while Leonardo DiCaprio portrayed plantation owner Calvin J. Candie.
