Johnny Silverhand is a fictional musician, rockerboy, soldier, and terrorist from the Cyberpunk universe. In the game, his digital personality appears after the Relic biochip is inserted into V’s head. Reeves provides Johnny’s English voice and performance, making the character a central presence throughout the main story.

Johnny was not created specifically for the video game. He originated in the Cyberpunk tabletop role-playing setting created by Mike Pondsmith and had already appeared in earlier Cyberpunk material. The game reinterprets his history and gives him a major role in its story about memory, identity, corporations, and digital consciousness.

Keanu Reeves’s involvement was revealed during Microsoft’s E3 2019 presentation, where he also appeared onstage. Johnny Silverhand is therefore different from the game’s protagonist V: Reeves plays Johnny, while V is the customizable character controlled by the player. The two characters share the central narrative because of the Relic’s effects.
