George Reeves portrayed Superman in the 1950s television series 'Adventures of Superman.'
The syndicated American series ran from 1952 to 1958 and was the first television series built around the Superman character. Reeves played both Superman and his secret identity, Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent. The regular cast also included Jack Larson as Jimmy Olsen and John Hamilton as editor Perry White.
The programme grew from the 1951 film 'Superman and the Mole Men,' which functioned as a pilot. Its early episodes were filmed in black and white and often had a darker crime-adventure tone; later seasons became lighter and were produced in color, although they were initially broadcast in black and white in many markets.
This answer is sometimes confused with Christopher Reeve, who played Superman in the 1978 film and its sequels. Kirk Alyn played Superman in 1940s theatrical serials, while Henry Cavill took the role in modern films.
