Which actor portrayed Elton John in the 2019 film Rocketman?

Taron Egerton portrayed Elton John in the 2019 film Rocketman. The biographical musical follows John's rise from piano-playing prodigy Reginald Dwight to one of pop music's most recognizable performers, with Egerton playing him across several stages of his life.

Egerton did more than imitate John's appearance and flamboyant stage presence: he performed the film's songs himself. John approved of Egerton's vocal interpretation, and the two recorded the new song “(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again” together for the soundtrack. Their duet won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2020.

Rocketman was directed by Dexter Fletcher, which is a common source of confusion because Fletcher is closely associated with the film. Richard Madden also appears in it as John Reid, Elton John's manager and former partner.
