Which actor played the Twelfth Doctor's companion Bill Potts?

Pearl Mackie played Bill Potts, the companion of the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who. She joined the programme opposite Peter Capaldi during the show’s tenth series in 2017.

Bill was introduced in “The Pilot” as a student working in the university canteen where the Doctor lectured. The Doctor became her tutor and gradually drew her into adventures involving time travel, alien technology, and the dangers surrounding the mysterious puddle known as the Doctor’s alien gateway.

Mackie’s performance made Bill an energetic and curious companion, while the character’s questions often gave viewers a way into the show’s stranger concepts. Bill was also notable as one of Doctor Who’s openly lesbian central characters; her relationship with Heather formed an important part of her first story.

The other options belong to different eras: Freema Agyeman played Martha Jones, Karen Gillan played Amy Pond, and Jenna Coleman played Clara Oswald. Mackie later returned as Bill in the 2017 Christmas special “Twice Upon a Time.”
