Which actor played Shang Tsung in the 1995 film Mortal Kombat?

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa played Shang Tsung in the 1995 film Mortal Kombat.

The film portrays Shang Tsung as the main antagonist and sorcerer overseeing the tournament on behalf of the Outworld emperor Shao Kahn. Tagawa’s performance became one of the most recognizable parts of the movie.

Tagawa had previously appeared in films including The Last Emperor and Rising Sun. His portrayal combined Shang Tsung’s calm authority with the character’s threatening supernatural power.

The cast also included Robin Shou as Liu Kang, Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage, Bridgette Wilson as Sonya Blade, and Christopher Lambert as Raiden. James Remar played Raiden in the 1997 sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, not the first film.
