Which actor played Jimmy Conway in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas?

The story behind the answer

Robert De Niro played Jimmy Conway in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas. Conway is the film’s fictionalized version of real-life gangster James “Jimmy the Gent” Burke, a major figure in the Lufthansa heist depicted in the story.

Goodfellas follows Henry Hill, played by Ray Liotta, as he enters organized crime and becomes associated with Conway and Tommy DeVito. Joe Pesci plays Tommy, making the three actors central members of the film’s criminal circle.

A frequent mix-up is confusing De Niro’s Jimmy Conway with James “Jimmy” Hoffa, whom De Niro later portrayed in The Irishman. Goodfellas was released in 1990 and adapted from Nicholas Pileggi’s nonfiction book Wiseguy, which chronicled Hill’s life and testimony.
