Which 2023 Martin Scorsese film is based on David Grann’s book about the Osage murders?

Killers of the Flower Moon is Martin Scorsese’s 2023 film based on David Grann’s book about the Osage murders.

The film adapts Grann’s 2017 nonfiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. It dramatizes the murders of wealthy members of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma during the 1920s, after oil was discovered beneath Osage lands.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays Ernest Burkhart, Robert De Niro plays William Hale, and Lily Gladstone plays Mollie Kyle. The story examines conspiracy, exploitation, marriage, inheritance, and the failures of institutions that allowed the crimes to continue.

The title refers to the Osage Nation’s description of May, when flowering plants can be overshadowed by taller growth. The film is not a conventional FBI-centered procedural; its narrative places substantial attention on the Osage victims and community.
