Which actor played Dr. Leonard McCoy in Star Trek: The Motion Picture?
Answer
DeForest Kelley
Answer
DeForest Kelley
DeForest Kelley played Dr. Leonard McCoy in Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
Kelley reprised the role of McCoy from the original Star Trek television series for the first feature film. In the story, McCoy has retired from Starfleet service, but Admiral James Kirk recalls him to active duty for the crisis involving the mysterious entity V'Ger.
The film reunited the principal original-series cast, including William Shatner as Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Spock, James Doohan as Scotty, George Takei as Sulu, Walter Koenig as Chekov, and Nichelle Nichols as Uhura. Kelley was one of the series' central performers, and McCoy's medical expertise and skeptical relationship with Spock remained important to the ensemble.
The character is often called “Bones,” a nickname used by Kirk. DeForest Kelley is sometimes confused with James Doohan, who played chief engineer Montgomery Scott; both characters served aboard the Enterprise but held different specialties.
