Which actor played Detective Chester Lake?

Adam Beach played Detective Chester Lake on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Beach's Chester Lake first appeared during the show's eighth season as a detective assigned to the Brooklyn Special Victims Unit. Lake later transferred to the Manhattan SVU, where he was partnered with Detective Fin Tutuola, played by Ice-T. He was written as a highly capable but complicated officer whose background and personal history distinguished him from the squad's other detectives.

Lake is notable as the first Native American detective in the Law & Order franchise. The character is identified as being of Mohawk ancestry, and his family had deep roots in New York City. Before becoming a detective, Lake had also competed as an amateur mixed martial artist under the nickname “Naptime.”

Adam Beach's time on SVU lasted through the show's ninth season. In the episode “Cold,” Lake kills another police officer during a confrontation and is arrested after the investigation turns against him. The role is sometimes confused with Danny Pino's Detective Nick Amaro, but Amaro was a different SVU detective.
