Which actor played Bruce Wayne in Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy?

The story behind the answer

Christian Bale played Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. Bale portrayed the billionaire heir and masked vigilante across Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.

The trilogy presents Bruce Wayne as a traumatized man who turns his family fortune, physical training, and detective skills toward fighting organized crime and corruption in Gotham City. Bale played both sides of the character: the public Bruce Wayne persona and the Batman identity, with a deliberately altered voice for the latter.

Batman Begins was released in 2005, The Dark Knight in 2008, and The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. Michael Keaton played Batman in Tim Burton's earlier films, while Ben Affleck later played the character in the DC Extended Universe. Robert Pattinson portrayed a different version in The Batman, released in 2022.
