Which 2026 Tony-winning production did Joe Mantello direct?

Joe Mantello directed Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, which won the 2026 Tony Award for Direction of a Play.

Mantello’s staging was a revival of Miller’s influential American drama about Willy Loman and his family. The production was recognized for its interpretation as well as several design and acting elements.

At the 79th Tony Awards, the revival won six awards, more than any other production. Its victories included Best Revival of a Play, Direction of a Play, Featured Actress in a Play for Laurie Metcalf, Scenic Design for Chloe Lamford, Lighting Design for Jack Knowles, and Sound Design for Mikaal Sulaiman.

Mantello has directed many acclaimed Broadway productions, but this Tony specifically honored his work on the Death of a Salesman revival. The musical direction award went to a different production and directing team.
