Schmigadoon! received Best Orchestrations at the 2026 Tony Awards for Doug Besterman and Mike Morris.
Orchestration is the process of shaping musical material for the instruments and ensemble that perform it. In a stage musical, orchestrators help translate songs and underscoring into a playable sound that supports the show’s dramatic world.
Besterman and Morris won for the Broadway musical adaptation of Schmigadoon!, whose score was written by co-creator Cinco Paul. The show’s musical language draws on recognizable traditions from classic musical theatre while using them for comic and contemporary purposes.
The orchestration prize was one of four Tony victories for Schmigadoon! in 2026. The production also won Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score, giving Paul two individual awards alongside the production’s top honor.
