André Bishop received a 2026 Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.
Bishop was honored alongside Jules Fisher and James Lapine at the 79th Tony Awards. The award recognizes a sustained career contribution rather than a single performance, production, or technical achievement from the 2025–26 Broadway season.
Bishop served for decades as the artistic director of Lincoln Center Theater, helping guide one of New York’s major nonprofit theatre institutions. His career included leadership, producing, and support for important American and international playwrights and directors.
The three recipients represented different areas of theatrical achievement. Fisher was known for lighting design, while Lapine was celebrated as a playwright and director. Their shared recognition was therefore a group of individual lifetime honors, not a joint award for one production.
