The Secret Agent won Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language for Brazil at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards.
Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, The Secret Agent is a Brazilian political thriller set during Brazil’s military dictatorship. The film follows Marcelo, a technology specialist who returns to Recife in 1977 while confronting political danger and the unresolved disappearance of his father.
The category recognizes films made outside the English-language mainstream, and its nominees can come from many countries and languages. The award is not the same as Best Motion Picture – Drama or Best Motion Picture – Animated, which are separate Golden Globe categories.
The title can be confused with films that have similar espionage-related names. At the 83rd ceremony, however, The Secret Agent was the Brazilian entry that won the non-English-language film prize.
