Which 2019 film featured Beyoncé voicing Nala?

The story behind the answer

The 2019 film The Lion King featured Beyoncé voicing Nala.

Directed by Jon Favreau, The Lion King is a photorealistic computer-animated remake of Disney’s 1994 traditionally animated film. Beyoncé voices the adult Nala, a lioness who becomes an important ally of Simba. Donald Glover voices Simba, while James Earl Jones returns as Mufasa.

Beyoncé also contributed the original song “Spirit” to the film’s soundtrack. “Spirit” was included in The Lion King: The Gift, a companion album curated by Beyoncé and inspired by the movie. The soundtrack and companion project connected the film to contemporary African and African-diaspora musical influences.

This role was different from Beyoncé’s earlier acting appearances in films such as Austin Powers in Goldmember, The Fighting Temptations, Dreamgirls, and Cadillac Records. Nala is an animated voice role, whereas several of those earlier performances were live-action. The 2019 film’s Nala is also distinct from the character’s voice in the 1994 original.
