Which 2017 game was the first main Assassin's Creed title set primarily in ancient Egypt?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Origins was the first main Assassin's Creed title set primarily in ancient Egypt.

Released in 2017, Origins follows Bayek of Siwa and his wife Aya during the first century BCE. Its story explores the origins of the Hidden Ones, the organization that later develops into the Assassin Brotherhood. The game combines this fictional history with settings associated with Ptolemaic Egypt, including Alexandria, Memphis, and the Great Pyramids.

Origins also changed the series' gameplay structure. It introduced stronger role-playing elements, character levels, weapon rarity, extensive equipment management, and a large animal companion named Senu. These systems became foundations for later open-world entries.

Odyssey is set in ancient Greece, while Valhalla focuses on Viking-era England and Norway. Mirage returns to ninth-century Baghdad. Those games share historical exploration, but Origins is the main-series entry specifically centered on ancient Egypt.
