The 2015 biographical film about Philippe Petit starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt is The Walk. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, it dramatizes Petit's illegal 1974 high-wire walk between New York City's World Trade Center towers.
Petit was a French street performer and wire artist who spent months planning the stunt with a small group of accomplices. They secretly transported equipment into the towers, rigged a cable between the rooftops, and completed the crossing before authorities arrested him. The real event became one of the most famous acts in modern performance history.
The film is based partly on Petit's memoir To Reach the Clouds. It is sometimes confused with Man on Wire, the acclaimed 2008 documentary about the same feat; that is a different film. Gordon-Levitt trained with Petit for the role and learned to perform wire-walking techniques for the production.
