Ariana Grande voiced a character in the English dub of the 2013 animated film Underdogs.
The film was originally released in Argentina as Metegol, a Spanish-language computer-animated sports comedy about table football figures that come to life. For its United States release, The Weinstein Company produced an English-language version and retitled it Underdogs. Grande voiced Laura, the story’s lead female character, in that U.S. dub.
The film was co-written and directed by Juan José Campanella, the Oscar-winning filmmaker known internationally for The Secret in Their Eyes. The English voice cast also included Nicholas Hoult, Matthew Morrison, Katie Holmes, John Leguizamo, Eugenio Derbez, and Mel Brooks.
A frequent mix-up is the film’s release date and title. Although the original Argentine film premiered in 2013, the English-language U.S. version reached audiences later, in 2015. In the United Kingdom, it was released under another title, The Unbeatables. Grande’s role was voice acting rather than an on-screen appearance.
