Answer
Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo: Combat Evolved was the 2001 Xbox launch game featuring Master Chief and the alien Covenant.
Developed by Bungie, the science-fiction first-person shooter follows the genetically enhanced supersoldier Master Chief Petty Officer John-117. After a human spacecraft reaches the mysterious ring-shaped installation called Halo, the Chief becomes involved in a conflict involving the Covenant and the parasitic Flood.
The game was released in North America on November 15, 2001, alongside Microsoft’s original Xbox console. Its two-weapon limit, rechargeable shield, vehicle sections, and split-screen multiplayer helped define console first-person shooters.
The subtitle “Combat Evolved” was used in the original Xbox release and later became part of the game’s standard title. Halo 2 was the sequel, not the first Xbox Halo game.
