Which 1997 game was the first Final Fantasy title to use 3D computer graphics?
Answer
Final Fantasy VII
Answer
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VII was the first Final Fantasy title to use 3D computer graphics.
Square released Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation in Japan in January 1997, with international releases later that year. The game used 3D polygonal characters and environments, pre-rendered backgrounds, and full-motion video sequences. These techniques represented a major visual change from the primarily 2D presentation of earlier mainline entries.
The story follows Cloud Strife and a group of allies opposing the Shinra Electric Power Company and the threat posed by Sephiroth. Its large production, cinematic presentation, and marketing helped introduce the Final Fantasy series to a much broader audience outside Japan.
Final Fantasy VII is sometimes confused with Final Fantasy VIII because both are PlayStation games with extensive 3D visuals. Final Fantasy VIII followed in 1999, but Final Fantasy VII made the series' initial transition to 3D.
