Which 1997 film brought Mr. Bean to the big screen for the first time?

The story behind the answer

Bean was the 1997 film that brought Mr. Bean to the big screen for the first time.

The film is also known by the longer title Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie. It expands the television character into a feature-length story in which Mr. Bean travels to the United States and becomes involved with an art-gallery assignment involving Whistler’s Mother.

Mel Smith directed the film, and Rowan Atkinson reprised the title role. The feature uses the character’s established physical comedy while adding a larger international setting, supporting characters, and a plot built around a famous painting.

Bean is distinct from Mr. Bean’s Holiday, released in 2007. The two films are sometimes mixed up because both involve travel and feature the same character, but Bean is the earlier theatrical production and the first movie adaptation of the television series.
