Which 1991 Game Boy game is the second Metroid title?
Answer
Metroid II: Return of Samus
Answer
Metroid II: Return of Samus
The 1991 Game Boy game that is the second Metroid title is Metroid II: Return of Samus.
Nintendo released it in North America in November 1991, following the original Metroid on the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was the first Metroid game made for a handheld console and sends Samus Aran to SR388 to eliminate the planet’s Metroid population before the Space Pirates can exploit it.
Metroid II introduced several lasting series features, including the Space Jump, Spider Ball, Spring Ball and multiple Metroid evolutionary forms. Its story also leads directly into Super Metroid: Samus spares a newly hatched Metroid, setting up the emotional conflict of the 1994 sequel.
A common mix-up is confusing the title’s release year with its Japanese and European launches, which occurred in 1992. It is also distinct from Metroid: Samus Returns, the 2017 Nintendo 3DS remake.
