On which Nintendo console did Metroid Prime originally release?

Metroid Prime originally released on Nintendo’s GameCube console.

Nintendo launched Metroid Prime in North America on November 18, 2002, making it one of the major first-party or Nintendo-published showcases for the GameCube. The Japanese release followed in February 2003, with Europe receiving the game in March 2003.

The GameCube version introduced the series’ first fully 3D, first-person adventure. Players explored Tallon IV through Samus Aran’s visor, using different beams, visors, missiles, and scan data to investigate the planet and uncover the Space Pirates’ experiments with Phazon.

Later releases can cause confusion. Metroid Prime was reissued for Wii through New Play Control! in Japan and as part of Metroid Prime: Trilogy in other regions. A separate remastered edition arrived on Nintendo Switch in 2023. Those are later versions, not the original platform. The Nintendo 64 was the preceding Nintendo home console, but Nintendo never released the original Metroid Prime there.
