Which 1943 C.S. Lewis novel is set on the planet Venus?

The story behind the answer

Perelandra is the 1943 C.S. Lewis novel set on the planet Venus.

The second book of Lewis's Space Trilogy, Perelandra follows Elwin Ransom as he travels to a young world known by its inhabitants as Perelandra. In the story's cosmology, the planet corresponds to Venus. Ransom confronts a supernatural and moral conflict involving the planet's first inhabitants.

The novel is not a realistic account of Venus's physical conditions. Lewis wrote before modern planetary exploration established that Venus has an extremely hot, high-pressure atmosphere. The book's planetary setting is therefore part of its imaginative and theological framework, while its central concerns include temptation, freedom, innocence, and obedience.
