Which 1943 C.S. Lewis novel follows Ransom to the planet Perelandra?

The story behind the answer

Perelandra is the 1943 C.S. Lewis novel that follows Ransom to the planet Perelandra.

The book is the second novel in Lewis’s Space Trilogy, following Out of the Silent Planet and preceding That Hideous Strength. Its protagonist, Elwin Ransom, travels to Perelandra, a world also called Venus, where he encounters a newly created human-like pair and a conflict involving temptation and moral choice.

Lewis combines planetary romance, Christian theology, philosophical speculation, and vivid descriptions of an alien environment. Perelandra’s floating islands and oceanic setting distinguish it sharply from the first novel’s Mars-like world of Malacandra.

The title is also the planet’s name, which makes the answer straightforward but can cause confusion with the trilogy’s other titles. Out of the Silent Planet is the opening volume, while That Hideous Strength concludes the series with a largely Earth-based story.
