Answer
Out of the Silent Planet
Answer
Out of the Silent Planet
Out of the Silent Planet is the 1943 C.S. Lewis novel in which Elwin Ransom travels to Malacandra. Malacandra is Lewis’s name for Mars in the novel’s imagined planetary system.
The book begins when Ransom, a philologist, is kidnapped and taken aboard a spacecraft. He escapes on Malacandra and encounters intelligent species whose society contrasts with the moral failures he associates with Earth, called Thulcandra in the story.
Out of the Silent Planet is the first volume of Lewis’s Space Trilogy. Perelandra follows it, and That Hideous Strength concludes the sequence. Although the trilogy uses science-fiction settings, its themes include language, morality, colonialism, and humanity’s relationship with the wider cosmos.
