Where were "The Blues Brothers" raised?

The Blues Brothers were raised at the St. Helen of the Blessed Shroud orphanage.

In the 1980 film, brothers Jake and Elwood Blues return to the Catholic orphanage after Jake is released from prison. Sister Mary Stigmata, known as “the Penguin,” tells them that the institution faces closure because it owes $5,000 in property taxes.

That crisis launches the film’s central “mission from God”: Jake and Elwood reunite their rhythm-and-blues band and attempt to raise enough money to save their childhood home. The orphanage is presented as being in Calumet City, Illinois, although much of the movie was filmed around Chicago.

A common mix-up is confusing the orphanage with the church where Jake has his musical epiphany. The church is the Triple Rock Baptist Church; St. Helen of the Blessed Shroud is the place where the brothers were raised. The orphanage itself was fictional, created for the film.
