Where is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company headquartered?

The story behind the answer

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

Usually known as TSMC, the company was founded in 1987 by Morris Chang. It pioneered the dedicated semiconductor foundry model, manufacturing chips designed by other companies instead of primarily selling chips under its own consumer brand.

TSMC’s headquarters are in Hsinchu Science Park, a major technology center in northern Taiwan. The company operates fabrication plants in Taiwan and has expanded manufacturing and research operations internationally, including facilities in the United States, Japan, and China.

Hsinchu is sometimes confused with Taipei because Taipei is Taiwan’s capital and largest city. However, TSMC’s corporate headquarters are in Hsinchu, which has long been associated with Taiwan’s semiconductor industry.
